Getting to Know Your Heavenly Father
Jesus came to reveal the Father to us, to reconcile you and I to our Father in Heaven.
I've often thought about the significance of knowing our Father and how it affects who we are and how we live here on earth.
I've come to the conclusion that if we don't know the Father as our Father, knowing Him intimately and finding our security in Him, then we rob ourselves of being conformed into the image of Christ.
It's All About Knowing God & Jesus Christ, the Son of God
Why would I say that? Why would I say that it's robbery to think you can be conformed into the image of Christ, without intimately knowing the Father as
your
Father?
Because Jesus knew His Father intimately. If we want to have any hope in being conformed into the image of God's Son (Romans 8:28-29), knowing that all things work together for good for one purpose: to be conformed into Jesus' image, then we MUST pursue intimacy with our Father in Heaven.
A quick trip through the Gospel’s will show you just how Jesus loved His Father, completely trusted His Father, and completely surrendered Himself to His Father so His Father would be glorified in Him. Jesus lived to please His Father and, in the same way, we are to live to please our Father.
John 4:34 (NKJV) Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work."
Truths to Cultivate Growth in Intimacy
A few years ago I began my journey to intimately knowing God as my Father. The Holy Spirit just began revealing Him to me and I've grown so much in knowing my Father in Heaven that it has significantly transformed me. I journaled some truths that God revealed to me which helped me to love God in a deeper way and you'll read them below. My prayer is that at least one of these truths will minister to your heart and spur you along your lifelong journey of knowing God as YOUR Father.
Your Heart Will Change
- I am His beloved child in whom He is well pleased. My Father is pleased with me. Me!
- Nothing that I do can take away His love from me. Abba loves me. I'm His. Nothing and no one can change His mind about me.
- When I disobey, His love remains the same. His discipline in my life does not negate His love for me. His discipline is love.
- There is nothing I can do or say to change His mind about me. His mind is made up and He won't be moved.
- I bring Him joy. I am never a bother to Him. He never gets tired of me or fed up with me and my shortcomings.
- He loves to hear my voice, my heart, my mind, etc. He is interested in me and loves to see me grow and make discoveries.
- He takes care of me and because of this, He expects me to be confident in His provision and to rest in that confidence.
- He knows everything that I need, when I need it and how I need it. This includes my emotional needs, relational needs, and every other need.
- He loves spending time with me and He wants me to love spending time with Him. Just me and Him, just to be together and spend quality time.
You Should Do This:
My challenge to you is this: set aside 15 minutes to intentionally spend one on one time with Your Father. Before you get started, take the first 5 minutes to write down which truth from above stood out to you. Then set your heart with faith and in expectation that you will encounter God and have an amazing experience as you spend time with Jesus. After, read the truth you wrote down and begin speaking to your Father in Heaven about it. Ask Him questions. Open your heart to Him. Tell Him how that truth makes you feel, and be honest! Does it make you feel uncomfortable, makes you want to cry, makes you confused? Tell me and ask Him to reveal His love for you and to help you grow in knowing Him because you want to know Him.
Overall, don't be afraid to share the ugly, raw truths of your heart with Him. He already knows them, He just wants you to bring them to Him, surrender them to Him, and allow Him to minister truth to you and transform your mind.
Are you ready?
I'm so excited for you.
Praying for you, my dear sister.
